Google Faculty Research Awards

Focus Areas: Computer Science, Engineering and Related fields

Award: Faculty Research Awards are designed to be in an amount approximately equivalent to the amount necessary to support one graduate student for one year. It is expected that most budgets for the Research Awards will be limited to the cost of one PhD student for one year (defined as salary plus tuition, or research salary in regions where PhD tuition is covered through other means) as well as modest conference travel for the student (1,500 USD for US universities, 3,000 USD for universities outside the US).

Who Can Apply: Google accepts applications from permanent faculty at universities around the world. The funding is focused on supporting PhD students, so applications from faculty at research institutions that award research degrees to PhD students are allowed.

Amazon Research Awards

  • Online advertising
  • Operations research and optimization
  • Personalization
  • Robotics
  • Search and information retrieval
  • Security, privacy and abuse prevention

Award: Amazon Research Awards (“ARAs”) are structured as a one-year unrestricted gifts to academic institutions. ARA funding amounts will be determined by Amazon in its sole discretion.

Who Can Apply: The “Principal Investigator/s”) must: (1) be a permanent faculty member at an accredited college(s) or university(ies) that grant PhD degrees in fields related to Machine Learning, (2) not have any other paid employment outside of academia

Allianz Climate Risk Research Award 

Focus Areas:

  • Reducing the risk of extreme weather events that are intensified by climate change
  • Fostering resilience by applying technological solutions

Award:

– EUR 7.000 First finalist
– EUR 5.000 Second finalist
– EUR 3.000 Third finalist
– EUR 2.000 Fourth finalist

Who Can Apply: University students currently pursuing either a PhD degree or a post-doc, as well as recent PhD graduates or recent post-doc graduates
