Participation in Cost Actions

The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) is an intergovernmental organization for collaboration in science and technology across Europe and for the pan-European coordination of nationally- funded research projects. TÜBİTAK is the scientific coordinator of COST in Turkey.

COST does not fund research itself but creates a platform for researchers to collaborate and exchange experience within the framework of a specific subject (called Action). The COST Action budget provides financial support for the Action Management Committee (MC) and Working Group (WG) meetings, scientific workshops and seminars, short scientific exchanges, courses and research conferences, and publications.

You may submit an individual application for a new COST action, or participate in the existing COST actions as a member of MC or WG. Each COST action can be assigned 2 full and 4 cooperating MC members from Turkey. To participate in the COST actions as an MC member, please see the guidelines below:

1.If You Are A Researcher Who is the Main Proposer of an Accepted COST Action:

a) If you do not request any research fund from TÜBİTAK, you may be assigned as an MC member without submitting a project for the respective COST action.

b)If you request any research fund from TÜBİTAK, you should submit a COST 2515 project in the subject area of the respective COST.

2.If You Are Not A Researcher Who is the Main Proposer of an Accepted COST Action:

a) If you do not currently have a project related with the action, you may submit a relevant project proposal to the TÜBİTAK 2515 COST Support Program. If your project is accepted, you may then become an MC member. (Before submitting a project proposal, researchers must check if Turkey has any available MC quota for the respective COST action. Please note that cooperating member applications are not considered.)

b) If you have an ARDEB ((1001/3501/1003/Bilateral Cooperation), TEYDEB (1501/1505/1507/1509/1511), BİDEB (2232, 2236), EU Framework Program, or Public Organization/Research Center/Research Hospital-funded research project which is still ongoing or ended within at most the last three years, you may be assigned to a COST action as an MC member.

3.Participation Through a Letter of Endorsement from the Action Chair:

You may also be assigned as an MC member to a COST action by submitting a letter of endorsement from the respective Action Chair/Main Proposer so long as the respective COST action has an available quota for full MC members and was approved by the COST Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) within the last one month.
