As is known, the emphasis on social sciences and humanities (SSH) within the Horizon Europe Program is today included under many components and clusters. SSH encompasses a wide range of disciplines such as sociology and economics, psychology and political science, history and cultural sciences, law and ethics, and in this respect, it has become a horizontal field whose contribution is needed within the scope of Horizon Europe in order to produce new knowledge, support evidence-based policy making, develop basic competencies and produce multidisciplinary solutions to both social and technological problems. Relevant call titles are as follows: HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-06 Innovative, Community-Integrated PV systems | This call emphasizes SSH disciplines' effective contribution, experts' participation, and relevant SSH expertise (including social innovation) to create impactful societal impacts from research activities, including new tools, ideas, and methods for active citizen participation. | HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-10 Market Uptake Measures of renewable energy systems | In project proposals, contributions from social sciences and humanities are requested. Where relevant, it is underlined that local, regional characteristics, socio-economic, gender, spatial and environmental aspects should be considered from a life cycle perspective . | HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-11 CCU for the production of fuels | Project proposals should identify and address concerns and needs of relevant end users and social stakeholders (e.g., civil society organizations, non-profits). Using social sciences and humanities methods, proposals should raise awareness about the social impact of solutions, gather feedback, and enhance societal readiness. | HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-12 DACCS and BECCS for CO2 removal/negative emissions | Project proposals are also required to explore socio-economic and political barriers to acceptability and awareness in terms of regulatory or policy initiatives, and include issues of circularity and best use of resources. | HORIZON-CL5-2024-D4-02 04 Design for adaptability, re-use and deconstruction of buildings, in line with the principles of circular economy (Built4People Partnership) | Project proposals should provide participatory solutions for the social acceptability of innovations in local and regional value chains, particularly focusing on workforce practices and skills. Effective SSH disciplines, experts, and institutions must contribute, along with relevant SSH expertise (including social innovation), to increase the societal impact of research activities. | HORIZON-CL5-2024-D4-02-05 Digital solutions to foster participative design, planning and management of buildings, neighbourhoods and urban districts (Built4People Partnership) | Project proposals should involve diverse citizens, end users, and stakeholders in urban development project planning for digital solutions. This call emphasizes SSH disciplines' effective contribution, SSH experts' participation, and inclusion of relevant SSH expertise (including social innovation) to enhance societal impact from research activities. |
